The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has taken a giant step in
bringing together trucking safety advocates from opposite sides.
During their annual meeting, held September 9-14 in Grand Rapids, Michigan,
CVSA held a safety education session which was attended by representatives of
the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, AAA Inc
(formerly AAA), Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways (CRASH), National
Association of Governor's Highway Safety Representatives and Parents Against
Tired Truckers (PATT).
In the past, many of these groups were not invited to industry conventions
because of their radical attacks on the trucking industry. CVSA's bold move to
invite these groups to participate in an industry convention is a positive
step forward in enhancing highway safety.
Cooperation between all parties is essential if we're going to improve
commercial motor vehicle safety and highway safety in general. The past
antagonism between these groups and the trucking industry has not resulted in
any positive highway safety improvements. It's time for everyone to put aside
their feelings and work together for positive safety changes.
Good Job, CVSA!
