Secretary of Transportation has announced that he will
continue to pursue the safety strategy he helped formulate in 1999. In
1999 Mineta was named chairman of a Blue Ribbon panel created by then Secretary
Rodney Slater to study the issue of commercial motor vehicle safety. Of
the 36 recommendations made by the panel, increased enforcement through
Compliance Reviews was near the top. Mineta has reasserted that one of the top
priorities of FMCSA will be a continuation of aggressive Compliance Reviews. Carriers
who are running on a "wing and a prayer" when it comes to compliance
better take note.................... The FMCSA Special Agents are going to be
out in force. Additionally, Agents will have their hands
full trying to conduct more Compliance Reviews in less time. This will certainly
allow them less time to research violation explanations and will make them less
likely to give carriers the benefit of the doubt. SafeTrac
Solutions, Inc highly recommends that you ensure your compliance before a
Compliance Review. The investment of doing this is much less than the
consequences of an unfavorable Compliance Review.
