Secretary of Transportation,
Norman Mineta announce that the White House has received his recommendation for
FMCSA Administrator. Although mums the word on who the nominee may be, Mineta
indicated that an appointment may be announced by the first week of May. Naming
an Administrator will certainly provide the agency with a clear direction and
strategy. Moreover, it will provide the industry with a clear understanding of
its part in the overall strategy of the agency. So far the Bush Administration
has held their cards very close when it comes to agency appointees and this
appointment seems no different. We'll just have to wait and see. In the
interim, Mineta is relying on Acting Administrator Julie Anna Cirillo to keep
the agency on track until a permanent Administrator is named.
