FMCSA's deadline for trailers to
be retrofitted with reflective tape is quickly coming up. The June 1, 2001
deadline covers all trailers regardless of manufacturing date. It is
unlikely that this deadline will be extended since carriers have known for years
of the upcoming deadline.
The only trailers that will be exempted are:
- pole trailers
- trailers used solely as offices or homes
- trailers in Driveaway/Towaway situations
Carriers who have older trailing equipment that didn't come under the
previous retrofitting requirements will be covered by June 1st.
It's a safe bet that scales and Ports of Entry will be looking for this
beginning June 1st. Save yourself unneeded headaches...get your reflective tape
on....
